The United States and World War I

Before people began using war tactics,
WWI was based off of trench warfare and this led to many deaths.
There were many causes to why World War I Began. It started because of nationalism, militarism, imperialism, and bad alliances. This war was interesting because once certain countries began fighting, other others joined.

There were two sides on this war, The Central Powers and The Triple Entente. Which later went on to re-name themselves "The Allies." The countries that were part of the Allies were Great Britian, United States, France, and Russia. The countries that were involved  in the Central Powers were Germany, Italy, The Ottoman Empire, and Austria-Hungary. This war was important because it allowed countries to made better alliances with one another and help countries realize who was on who's side.

There were several reasons to why this war started in the first place. One reason was because Russia wanted access to the Mediterranean Sea. Another reason was because on June of 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was heir to the Austrian throne, visited Sarajevo, Bosnia. While he was there, a Serbian nationalist named  Gavrilo Princip assassinataed Archduke Ferdinand and his wife Sophie.

As World War I went on, many countries around
the world began joining sides.  But, some were neutral.
The military strategies are very different in comparison from WWI to now. As the fighting began between the sides, they did not have any sort military tactics but only one and that tactic was called trench warfare. Trench warfare was when each side would create dugouts and would just shoot at one another with no sort of strategy. In end of all of it, the British suffered 60,000 casualties on the first day and with a final result of 1.2 million casualties.

The difference now, the military is more advanced in technology and has better strategies and tactics. Today's military uses drone and GPS signals to track their enemies and implement less men then they did before.

The United States did not wanted any sort of involvement in the war in the beginning. The felt there was no need to join the war because it was 3,000 miles away and they were not threatened at all. Also, they wanted to set the example of true in the world. As the war went on, many immigrants in the U.S. followed the war. They did this because they had ties with their past countries.

After years went on, the United States finally declared to join the war. They joined the war for two main reasons: to ensure the allied repayment of debts to the United States and because they wanted to prevent Germany from threatening United States shipping. The U.S. played a major part to the war. Once the United States joined, the war ended shortly due to their advancement in weaponry. This led to the Allies winning and the Central Powers losing World War I.
